I've seen this, it doesn't mean a thing. Hawaii issued these out when ANYBODY, reported a birth. You can't even get a passport with this document.

So many people don't get the Electoral College. You do a pretty good job by saying it's related to the representation in Congress. What confuses folks is that what it boils down to is that effectively each state votes for who they as a state want for President, and then the state votes are tallied by the EC, weighted by their congressional power. This was a pretty big deal when the Constitution was first written because a straight popular vote would have meant that a mere three states (Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts) out of the original 13 could have completely shut out the other ten, and they wouldn't go for that.

Some states divide their electors, but what that means is that they are effectively voting 'Present" for President instead of deciding who they want as a state.

Many forget that we are a Union of States, each virtually a country unto itself. Oddly, it could be easier to talk about the countries of the European Union electing their representation, with the States being like the member nations, and the EU being like the Federal government. Except the EU is a REAL mess.

Well, if I ever think of running for American presidency, I'll have keep this in mind. However, it would just be easier to run for Prime Minister since I already live in Canada :XD:

Awesome graphics!

However, technically there is another way to become president where you can skip most of these steps (except the first constitutional qualifications). In the case that the president and vice-president both die, the Speaker of the House of Representatives becomes president. :)

Again! Awesome work!

This should be posted in school books. This is the easiest explaination of becoming president I've ever seen. Really, this is so easy it should be printed in Elementry social studies books.

When I first saw this, I was expecting a sarcastic commentary on the state of politics today, but I am very impressed. Just as what other people have said, this is informative, easy to follow and unerstand and gives just the right amount of information. I love the little subtle touches, like the candidate lifting the baby and the "+" and "$" signs as the people watch the ads. Thanks for finally clarifying the difference betwen the primary and the caucus--and congratulations on winning that contest.

yeah, and that's why an everyday person will never be president. no normal citizen could lie and cheat their way through life like politicians to raise the funds it takes to campaign...not to mention the price just to get in.

This. Needs to be. In every classroom. In America.

When I was in high school, I was so sick of people thinking that presidents were elected based on popular vote when it doesn't work that way. I wish I could have hit them in the head with a rolled up poster of this.

What's sad is that more than two years later anyone with a brain can still make this statement. Certificate of Birth from the State of Hawaii released more than 2 years ago and confirmed to be legitimate by the Republican Governor of Hawaii 3 separate time during the campaign. Honolulu newspapers from the time with the birth announcement, which the newspapers only get from the State of Hawaii itself. Every single "document" purporting to show that Obama was born elsewhere easily discredited as hoaxes. Not to mention that neither the Republican Party or any of Obama's Democratic rivals made any attempt to challenge his legitimacy as a Natural Born US Citizen.
